Youlim KIM successfully defends her doctoral thesis


On April 30, 2026, Youlim KIM, affiliated researcher with the Research Training Group GRK 2833 “East Asian Futures”, successfully defended her doctoral thesis at the Faculty of East Asian Studies of Ruhr University Bochum. Following a brief presentation of her thesis, titled “Transformation and Construction of Social Discourse on Unmarried Mothers in South Korea”, KIM faced the questions of the doctoral committee, consisting of her advisors, Prof. Dr. Marion EGGERT and Prof. Karen SHIRE Ph.D., as well as Prof. Dr. Felix SIEGMUND, Prof. Dr. Christine MOLL-MURATA, Prof. Dr. Katja SCHMIDTPOTT and Dr. Thorsten TRAULSEN.

After her successful defense, KIM celebrated with her advisors, fellow doctoral researchers and friends on the RUB campus und was later awarded her doctoral certificate at the faculty’s Dean’s office. The Research Training Group warmly congratulates Youlim KIM for her accomplishment and wishes her all the best for the upcoming publication of her thesis.
