Doctoral Research Programme

Outline

The DFG research training group GRK 2833 “East Asian Futures: Visions and Realizations on National, Transregional and Global Scales” (EAF) will train doctoral researchers in the fields of East Asian studies, and in the humanities and social sciences with a strong focus on East Asia.

Doctoral researchers will receive degrees at the universities and faculties of their discipline. They will be supervised by the participating researchers of both universities. The discipline of the first supervisor will decide their placement either in Bochum or Duisburg. For the curricular programme, the group will convene at Bochum and Duisburg alternatingly, as is the established best practice of the AREA Ruhr Doctoral Programme. The offices of the doctoral researchers will be at the university of their first supervisors. Fieldwork in East Asia at the RTG’s partner universities forms an integrated part of the doctoral research programme.

In addition to the disciplinary and interdisciplinary curricular modules, general academic skills and career advancement capabilities are being developed at the Ruhr University Bochum Research School and the Graduate Centre Plus of the University of Duisburg-Essen under the umbrella of the Research Academy Ruhr (RAR).
