Activity Report: Pao-wen HUANG


From July 28 to August 1, 2025, doctoral student Pao-wen HUANG of the Research Training Group GRK 2833 “East Asian Futures” participated in the World Economic History Congress (WEHC) at Lund University, Sweden. The WEHC is an international and interdisciplinary event held every three years, focusing on economic history. It brings together scholars from around the world working in this field.

Ms. HUANG attended the conference as a non-presenting participant and participated in several panels focused on Taiwanese economic history and tariff issues. These sessions included topics such as “Sustaining China’s Natural Resources, Meeting Global Challenges: Multi-faceted Strategies in Governance, Markets, and Everyday Life, 1900–1950” and “Merchant Networks and Commodity Frontiers: People, Knowledge, and Materials in Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Century East Asia.” During the conference, she was able to meet several economic historians from Taiwan, including Professor HONG Sao-yang from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and Professor WU Lin-chun (National Taiwan Normal University), a Mercator fellow of the Research Training Group.
