On December 8, 2024, Fudan University hosted the TEDxXuhui annual meeting under the theme “元”探索新始 (New Beginnings of “meta-”exploration). The event brought together speakers from diverse fields, including the arts, sciences, medicine and the humanities, to discuss the new possibilities of emerging technologies and the ongoing significance of traditional culture in contemporary society. Guided by a spirit of technological optimism, many talks explored the application of innovations such as big data and AI in shaping a better future across various disciplines.

EAF doctoral students Buyun GONG and Anna-Maria RAU were in attendance and found meaningful connections to their research through the talks of SU Zhiliang (苏智良), who reflected on Shanghai’s vibrant cultural heritage, and LI Zhengkuang (李政宽), who bridges contemporary popular music with traditional Chinese opera.
