Ph.D. student Eetu LAUSTELA of the Research Training Group GRK 2833 “East Asian Futures” held a presentation on his research topic with the title “Another Tomorrow: Revisiting State Socialist Past Futures and Their Legacy” at a docotoral workshop Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia. The workshop, titled “Why Socialism Matters? Approaches to Research of the Political Idea and the Historical Period”, was organised by the university’s Department of History and the Centre for Cultural and Historical Research of Socialism and took place on August 28–31, 2024 in Pula, Croatia.
The 10th annual workshop for doctoral students discussed the relevance of socialism in historical and contemporary social contexts, as well as in the research practises and epistemology of social sciences and humanities. The presentations highlighted the connection between socialist thought and historical experiences, explained why socialism matters for the particular topic and why the research of their topic matters, how it shaped the past through possible successes and failures, and how such legacies are shaping the present and possibly the future. Alongside 20 doctoral students who presented their research, Assoc. Prof. Ankica Čakardić, PhD (University of Zagreb), Prof. Hannes Grandits, PhD (Humboldt University of Berlin), Assoc. Prof. Branimir Janković, PhD (University of Zagreb), and Assoc. Prof. Katarina Peović, PhD (University of Rijeka) were invited as keynote speakers. Eetu LAUSTELA gave his presentation on August 31, 2024.
