On June 6 and 7, Nora Wölfing, affiliated doctoral researcher of the Research Training Group, traveled to Nuremberg and Munich to conduct field research for her ongoing research project on contemporary art from the Sinophone region. In Nuremberg she met Ronald Kiwitt, head of the art department at the Confucius Institute Nuremberg-Erlangen. Here she gained insights into the current situation of the art space and the reception of the exhibited art within the broader public. At the same time the art Asian collective Mutant Maker held a group exhibition titled Mutant Makers Guide to the Apocalypse at Galerie Galvanistraße in the south of Nuremberg. This exhibition highlighted futurity in terms of eschatological ideas and playful end of the world scenarios.

On Saturday Mrs. Wölfing continued her travels from Nuremberg to Munich to visit Shu Lea Cheang’s solo exhibition Kiss Kiss Kill Kill at Haus der Kunst Munich. This survey exhibition is the first time that the Taiwanese-American artist is presented in an institutional solo exhibition in Germany. After the exhibition visit Mrs. Wölfing met curator Sarah Johanna Theurer and engaged in an expert interview on curatorial choices and challenges in exhibiting media-based art.
