Martyna SZOJA, an affiliated PhD candidate with the Research Training Group GRK 2833 “East Asian Futures programme” (Cohort 2), presented her research at the 3rd UNITAR International Research Conference (3UIRC). Her presentation, titled “China’s New Role in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime: SDG 16 & SDG 17,” examined China’s evolving position within global security governance and its implications for sustainable peace and international cooperation through the lenses of the roles theory.

The UNITAR International Research Conference (UIRC) is an annual flagship initiative of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Division for Peace, organized by its Online Learning and Education Unit in partnership with international academic and policy institutions. Established in 2023 at the UN Bonn Campus, the UIRC series serves as a global platform connecting experts, scholars, and practitioners to explore how higher education can advance peace, security, and sustainable development. The conference promotes cross-disciplinary research and inclusive educational practices aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN 2.0 vision, addressing themes such as climate resilience, conflict prevention, and global governance.
